The Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro route that approaches the mountain from the northern side, near the border with Kenya. It is known for its quieter trails, gradual ascent, and beautiful wilderness scenery.

Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Distance: 6 km Hiking Time: 3–4 hours Elevation: 3,600 m → 4,330 m One of the most scenic camps on Kilimanjaro. Overnight: Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut Camp
Distance: 9 km Hiking Time: 4–5 hours Elevation: 4,330 m → 4,700 m Cross the alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Overnight: Kibo Camp
Kibo Camp → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut
Distance: 21 km Hiking Time: 10–15 hours Summit Elevation: 5,895 m Begin the summit climb around midnight. Highlights: Gilman's Point Stella Point Uhuru Peak Descend to Horombo Hut for overnight rest. Overnight: Horombo Hut Area
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Distance: 20 km Hiking Time: 5–7 hours Receive summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel.
